Philippines Nurse Recruitment Initiative
Provincial News Conference, Regina
Tuesday, March 11, 2008    11:30 a.m.

On behalf of Prairie North Health Region, Vice-President of Development and Operations Lionel Chabot participated in this morning’s provincial news conference in Regina.

Prairie North Health Region provided the following information:

  • Prairie North Health Region is pleased to have participated in the nurse recruiting trip to the Philippines. Two representatives from our Health Region were part of the delegation.
  • The trip was very successful for PNHR: our aim was to recruit 25 nurses and we are happy to announce that we made offers to 21 nurses.
  • We look forward to completing the recruitment process and having 21 nurses from the Philippines join our nursing workforce over the next 6 to 9 months.
  • All of the Philippine nurses recruited to Prairie North will fill vacant positions in The Battlefords as that is where the majority of our vacancies are located.
  • The Battlefords already has a Philippine community that we will begin working with to welcome and provide support to our new recruits.
  • The Philippine nurses will be working in acute care, long term care, and at the province’s psychiatric rehabilitation facility Saskatchewan Hospital. We will be working with our staff at these sites and across our Region to ensure our new nurses are welcome and comfortable in their new work environments, as well as in their new community.
  • Prairie North Health Region extends our appreciation to the Ministry of Health and our partners in the Philippines Recruitment project, for the opportunity to have joined in this important initiative. It has already proven to be a successful component of Prairie North Health Region’s multi-faceted recruitment strategy.
