This is Environmental Public Health Week across Canada.
The specially-designated week recognizes the hard work of all Environmental Public Health Professionals and the importance of environmental public health programs in our healthcare system.
Public Health professionals are dedicated to promoting and protecting public health and to meeting new challenges from the environment that can affect human health.
In Prairie North Health Region, five Public Health Inspectors (PHIs) provide a variety of services including:
- inspections of public facilities such as restaurants, hotels and campgrounds, swimming pools, tattoo and body piercing facilities, small water systems, and institutions such as daycares and nursing homes
- inspection services for plumbing and sewage disposal installations
- investigation of enteric communicable diseases
- investigation of housing complaints.
They are also appointed Tobacco Control Officers and enforce the Tobacco Control Act and Regulations.
