July 8, 2013 - Lloydminster, AB/SK - Lloydminster & District Co-op announced today its sale of the downtown plaza facility to Prairie North Regional Health Authority.
“The release of the plaza to Prairie North is a win-win for both organizations,” said Don Stephenson, CEO of Lloydminster & District Co-op. “It will allow us, as a co-operative, to continue to focus on our core competencies.”
David Fan, Prairie North CEO said, “For the health region, the purchase allows us to further our efforts to meet the ever-growing demand for health services and space in which to provide them for the residents of Lloydminster and area. We are thrilled with the acquisition which was undertaken after thorough analysis and review, and with great consideration.”
Lloydminster & District Co-op is a diversified retailer with operations in grocery, petroleum, propane, and agriculture supplies. With sales of over $125 million in 2012 and active membership of almost 15,000, Lloydminster Co-op is one of the fastest growing retail co-operatives in Saskatchewan. The continuing development of Lloydminster & District Co-op is a priority for its board of directors, management, and employees.
Prairie North has been a tenant in the downtown plaza since 2006 and has come to occupy over 70% of the structure. “It only makes sense to convert those lease costs into ownership costs,” Fan stated. “Our plans are to develop a much-needed Primary Health Care Innovation Site in the facility, to improve access to everyday health services for the community.”
A number of other Prairie North community health and RHA administrative services already function in the downtown plaza, along with other health-related organizations and services.
