Prairie North Regional Health Authority members approved today a balanced operating budget that supports the Region's strategic planning pillars of Better Health, Better Care, Better Value, and Better Teams. The budget aligns with the direction and accountability provided by the provincial Ministry of Health and invests in areas of specific need in the Region.

“I'm very proud of the services and improvements we'll provide to the Region's residents this year,” said Authority Chair Bonnie O'Grady. “Even with a limited increase to our provincial base funding, we are able to invest significantly in delivering the best possible care and experience to patients.”

Overall, the 2012/13 operating budget grew by 6.98 per cent over last year. Base funding from Saskatchewan Ministry of Health increased by 4.2 per cent this year, compared to 12 per cent in the previous year. Nearly 80 per cent of the annual operating budget – $206,634,020 – is allocated to employee salaries and benefits, and physician remuneration.

Information technology investments for the 2012/13 fiscal year will total $1.2 million. Planning for the replacement of Saskatchewan Hospital – North Battleford and Northland Pioneers Lodge in Meadow Lake continues.

“As a Region, we are focused on maximizing every dollar spent in order to improve the patient experience,” said PNHR Chief Executive Officer David Fan. “By aligning our work with the provincial priorities, we're able to make significant progress in many areas, including reducing surgical wait times for our residents and people across Saskatchewan. We're also committed to the ongoing process of finding efficiencies and eliminating waste through the implementation of the Saskatchewan Lean Management System.”
