Prairie North Health Region and Battlefords Safety Council are once again partnering to help improve bicycle safety for local school children.
The Health Region and Safety Council are sponsoring this year’s Bike Roadeo on May 15 and 16 in North Battleford at the Civic Centre and on May 17 at the Battleford Arena. Approximately 250 Grade four students from elementary schools in Battleford and North Battleford have been invited to participate.
Organizers are excited to announce that this year the Bike Roadeo is also going to be open the evening of May 15 from 5:00 p.m. – 8:30 p.m. at the North Battleford Civic Centre. Families from both communities are invited to attend. Family members will have the opportunity to go through the Roadeo, have their helmets fitted properly, and have their bikes inspected.
Prairie North Health Region and Battlefords Safety Council are also excited to announce partnership with the North Battleford Canadian Tire Associates Store, City of North Battleford, and SGI. The partnership has given us the opportunity to purchase adult and youth bicycle helmets at a reduced cost. The helmets will be available for purchase for $5 each by adults and children who successfully complete the May 15th evening Bike Roadeo.
The goal of the Bike Roadeo is to improve bicycle safety for all citizens in The Battlefords. It provides everyone the opportunity to learn about safety issues when using a bicycle, and tests individual skills with bike management.
The Bike Roadeo course is set up in the Civic Centre and in the Battleford Arena, with various stations simulating a variety of common traffic situations and requiring participants to demonstrate skills requiring balance and control. Each Roadeo ride begins with a mechanical inspection of the bike and proper fitting of each bicycle helmet. The Roadeo is fun and a great event for people of all ages!!
PNHR and Battlefords Safety Council hope that through the Bike Roadeo education program, the number of bicycle-related and bike-traffic injuries to people in our community will be reduced.
Battlefords RCMP, North Battleford Fire and Emergency Services, Lions Clubs of North Battleford and Battleford, Burger King, City of North Battleford, Town of Battleford, Vern’s Pizza, and Dollar Store With More also assist the Bike Roadeo program through their support.
Thank you to all sponsors, volunteers, teachers and students who help make the Bike Roadeo happen and make it a success year after year.
